Cumberland won two of three against Brewton-Parker and split a double-header with Indiana Tech. The wins over Brewton-Parker were 2-0 and 7-6. Aaron Wilkerson got his 16th straight win in the shutout, allowing one hit in seven innings of work. Keith Kirby pitched the final two innings, and LF Richie Seaton singled in both runs. C David Fanshawe went 3-4 in the second win, and batted in the winning run. In the third game, however, the Bulldogs were mercy-ruled by the Barons, 13-0 after five innings. Daniel Miller held the Bulldogs to one hit.
The Bulldogs won the first game against Indiana Tech 6-3; Matt Vance got the win, and 3B Tommy Crews batted in the winning run. The score of the second game was 5-3; LF Gary King batted in the winning run, 1B Riley Muhlenkamp hit a home run, and Brandon Alger got the win.
The Bulldogs are now 9-3. They travel to Freed-Hardeman March 4-5, and Texas Wesleyan March 7.
Lee defeated Rio Grande 4-1; Curtis Camilli allowed three hits over seven innings, and Roberto Reyes hit a three-run home run. The Flames then won three of four against Iowa Wesleyan. Shay Crawford pitched a seven-inning one hitter in the first game, a 7-0 win for the Flames. Iowa Wesleyan won the second game 2-1; both of the Tigers' runs were unearned. Jorge Martinez went the seven-inning distance for the Tigers, allowed five hits. The Flames won the remaining two games 2-1 and 17-2; Jay Bolen and Joe Fabre combined to hold the Tigers to four hits in the 2-1 win.
The Flames are 14-4. They visit Young Harris (a former JUCO that is now four years) on Monday, and Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday. They host Emmanuel March 4-5.
Cal Baptist swept four games against Concordia-Irvine, 6-4, 5-0, 11-2, and 2-0. The first win was a barn-burner. The Lancers trailed 2-1 going into the ninth, and scored five runs in the top of the ninth (helped by two expensive Eagles errors) to take a 6-2 lead. The Eagles got back two runs in the bottom of the ninth on RBI singles by 2B Robbie Knowles and CF Matt Ivanoff, and had the winning run at the plate. 3B Danny Casey hit a ball to the center field fence, which was caught by CF Matt Marnati. C Sharif Othman and 1B Josh Manzano batted in the runs in the Rivera win.
The Lancers are 17-2. They host Westmont Wednesday and Thursday, then visit Westmont March 5.
Lewis-Clark State had a quiet week. They defeated Dickinson State 14-1, and Corban 10-0. Three more games against Corban were cancelled due to weather, and a second game against Dickinson State was stopped in the bottom of the second due to snow. In the win over Dickinson State, C Billy Silvestri made the most of his first-ever start for the Warriors, going 4-5 with three doubles and four RBI. Casey Edelbrock got his first win for the Warriors. Tyler Barrett, Cody Garner, Paul Anaya, and Zach Clanton combined for the shutout against Corban, and DH Braxton Miller hit a grand slam home run.
Next up for the Warriors is Concordia-Portland March 4-6. Their record is 9-1.
Lubbock Christian defeated Division III McMurray 6-5 with a ninth-inning home run by 2B Chandler Griffin. The Chaparrals then swept three games from Southern Nazarene, 11-6, 6-5, and 11-0. CF Richard Bohlken batted in the winning run in the second game; Lucas Whitmore got the win. Southern Nazarene scored three late runs in this one, and the Chaparrals got double plays in the sixth and seventh innings to preserve the win. Tyler Curtis, Shane Ingram, and Cameron Ray combined for the shutout in the third game.
The Chaparrals are 12-0. They visit U. of the Southwest on Tuesday, and Oklahoma City March 4-5.
Embry-Riddle swept three games against Ave Maria, 5-3, 4-2, and 7-3. Ryan Vigue, Tucker Jensen, and Kevin Maloney got the wins. The Eagles are 13-2, and they host Southeastern March 4-5.
Oklahoma City defeated Division II Central Oklahoma 7-1, and swept three games at Wayland Baptist, 5-3. 12-2, and 18-14. The Stars scored five runs in the top of the ninth to win the third game; 1B Miguel Beltran went 2-6, hit a two-run home run, and had four RBI.
The Stars are 10-2, and host Lubbock Christian March 4-5.
Point Loma Nazarene split two games with Biola, winning 3-0, and losing 7-2. Two more scheduled games were rained out. Chris Gonzales got a complete-game shutout in the win, allowed six hits, recorded six strikeouts. The Sea Lions got all the runs they needed on a two-run home run by DH Scott Stidham in the first inning. In the second game, Biola took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by RF Vinnie Fayard, and a three-run home run by 1B Mac Sullivan. Kevin Ryan got the win for the Eagles.
The Sea Lions are 6-3. They visit San Diego Christian Wednesday and Thursday, and host San Diego Christian March 5.
Southern Polytechnic got two wins over Reinhardt, 6-1 and 7-4, and three wins over Saint Thomas (FL), 12-2, 7-0, and 3-2. Josh Strawn got a complete-game shutout in the second game, allowed four hits, struck out seven. The third game was scheduled for seven innings, and went into an extra inning; 1B Blake Parrott hit a walk-off home run to decide it. Hunter Dinsmore, who pitched the last 3 2/3 innings and allowed two hits, got the win.
The Hornets are 13-3. They host Auburn-Montgomery on Tuesday, and visit a Shorter team that is 17-3 March 4-5.
British Columbia got a four-game sweep at College of Idaho, a team that gave the Thunderbirds a lot of trouble last season. The scores were 11-4, 4-0, 5-1, and 3-2; the last game was a scheduled seven-inning game that took nine innings to decide. The Thunderbirds got the high-quality pitching they were expected to have this year; Sheldon McDonald struck out 11 in the first game, and Eric Brown and Shawn Hetherington combined for the shutout in the second game. Brown allowed two hits in six innings. In the fourth game, The Thunderbirds out-hit the Coyotes 8-5, but the Coyotes got two runs in the bottom of the sixth off a hit batter and a walk with the bases loaded to send it into extra innings. 2B Ryan Taylor batted in the winning run for the Thunderbirds, and Luke Webster, who pitched the final 3 1/3 innings and allowed two hits, got the win.
Next up for the Thunderbirds is Corban March 4-5; Corban is looking for their first win of the season.
South Carolina-Beaufort got easy wins against Edward Waters and Voorhees, but got swept by Webber International, 5-1, 5-1, and 7-6. Webber International got complete games from freshman Ryan O'Gara (six hits) and Rob Lane (five hits) in the first two games. In the third game, the Warriors trailed 6-0 going into the bottom of the seventh, but scored two runs in the seventh and three in the eighth, then won it on a two-RBI single by freshman Derek Self.
The Sand Sharks are 11-4. They host Southern Wesleyan Tuesday and Wednesday, and visit Northwood (FL) March 4-5.
