Embry-Riddle (#1) lost to Division II Flagler 4-0, ending a 14-game winning streak. The Eagles managed only three hits against a traditional rival. The Eagles defeated South Carolina-Beaufort 13-5 in the first round of The Sun Conference tournament, by scoring twelve runs in the last two innings. SS Ben Kline singled in the winning run in the eighth inning, then got two more RBI on an inside-the-park home run in the ninth. The Eagles will play either Southeastern or Savannah College of Art and Design in the second round on Wednesday. Live audio for all Sun Conference tournament games is available here.
Oklahoma City ( #2) finished their regular season winning two of three against Rogers State (#19), losing 6-3, then winning 10-0 and 9-1. The Stars out-hit the Hillcats 12-6 in the first game, but the Hillcats won in with a three-run home run by CF Brandt Barnes. Rich Hawkins pitched a mercy-rule-shortened shutout in the second game, LF Julien Pollard hit a two-run home run. Terrance Jackson and Allen Townsend combined for a one-hitter in the third game; Jackson struck out seven in 6 2/3 innings, but also walked seven batters. RF Matt Presley went 2-5 with a home run, a double, and five RBI.
The Stars play Oklahoma Christian in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament in Lubbock on Wednesday, Rogers State in Plainview, TX on Thursday, and U. Of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Plainview on Friday.
Cal Baptist (#3) won their second straight Golden State Athletic Conference pennant, winning three of four against Point Loma Nazarene. They won the first two games 11-9 and 13-5. Taylor Siemens got the win in the first game, despite giving up eight runs, five of them earned; the Lancers led the game 11-2 after four innings. In the second game, SS Brian Sharp went 2-4 with a home run, a double, three RBI, and two stolen bases. He scored a run by getting hit by a pitch, stealing second and third, then going home on a balk.
The Sea Lions won the third game 6-2; they got all the runs they needed on a three-run home run by 3B Shane Stoner in the first inning. Stoner finished the game 3-4 with two doubles. The Lancers won the fourth game 2-1, in front of a crowd of 387. 3B Kevin Odom singled in the winning run, and Devyn Rivera got the complete-seven-inning-game win.
The Lancers opened the GSAC tournament with a 15-7 loss to Azusa Pacific. RF Brent Warren went 3-6 with four RBI for the Cougars. Taylor Siemens got the loss. The Lancers play Point Loma Nazarene in the second round on Wednesday.
Cumberland (#4) finished their regular season with a three-game sweep of Mid-Continent, 4-3, 3-2, and 8-3, winning their third straight Transouth Conference regular season championship. The Bulldogs have won 16 straight. CF Antonio Butler went 3-3 with two doubles in the first game, and one of the doubles brought in the winning run. Aaron Wilkerson ran his record to 11-0, 1.00 ERA. He has won 25 straight, has the lowest ERA in the NAIA, and is tied with Danny Gidora of Texas-Brownsville and Ryan Vigue and Tucker Jensen of Embry-Riddle for most wins; R.L. Eiesnbach of Faulkner (#11) leads the NAIA with twelve wins. Will Locante pitched a two-hitter in the second game, struck out six. However, the Bulldogs didn't score the winning run until the bottom of the seventh of a seven-inning game; 1B Greg Appleton drew a walk with the bases loaded to win it. Mike Mandarino got the win in the third game and hit a home run; Appleton also hit a home run.
The TranSouth tournament is now scheduled to start Wednesday at Jackson, TN; It's been delayed by weather twice. The Bulldogs play Bethel (TN) in the first round. Streaming video should be available here.
Oklahoma Baptist (#5) finished their regular season with a 12-2 win over Saint Gregory's, and a three-game sweep of Wayland Baptist, 12-4, 8-7, and 5-0. Chris Lemus hit a grand slam home run in the first game against Wayland Baptist, and Mitch Prophet hit a grand slam in the second game. Richie Mirowski and Blake Gallacher combined for the shutout in the third game. Mirowski went seven innings, allowed three hits, struck out ten. He is 10-1, 3.31 ERA with 93 strikeouts.
The Bison play at Wayland Baptist again in the first round of the SAC conference on Wednesday. They play at #9 Lubbock Christian on Thursday, and against Mid-America Christian in Lubbock on Friday.
Lee (#6) went two-and-out in the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament, losing 12-8 to William Carey and 7-4 to #18 Southern Polytechnic.
Union C. (KY) (#7) plays Virginia Intermont tonight in the first round of The Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament in Kingsport, TN.
LSU-Shreveport (#8) made a shambles of the Red River Athletic Conference tournament, winning four games by a combined score of 47-6. They defeated Texas-Brownsville 10-1 in the tournamen final. DH Kyle Pearson went 3-4 with three RBI in the final, and 11-6 with 13 RBI for the tournament.
Lubbock Christian (#9) finished their regular season with a sweep of Saint Gregory's, 13-2, 11-0, and 24-2. The Chaparrals are one of the hosts of the SAC tournament. Lucas Whitmore pitched a two-hit shutout in the second game, struck out eight. They play Mid-America Christian on Wednesday, #5 Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday, and at Wayland Baptist on Friday.
Auburn-Montgomery (#10), like Lee, went two-and-out in the SSAC tournament. They lost 8-4 to Shorter and 8-7 to #16 Brewton-Parker.
Brewton-Parker (#16) and Belhaven (#21) are still in the SSAC tournament, along with William Carey (ISR #63). Brewton-Parker defeated Belhaven 12-5 today; RF Josh Palmer went 2-4 for the Barons, batted in three of their runs. Belhaven will pay the winner of a game tonight between Brewton-Parker and William Carey.
Concordia-Irvine is #1 in Strength of Schedule. Trevecca Nazarene is #2, and Biola is #3.
Matt Loomis of Davenport pitched a no-hitter against Aquinas on April 29. He allowed three baserunners, struck out ten, and struck out the side in the ninth inning.
