Oklahoma City (15-4, 6-1 SAC) defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan 12-4, and swept Northwestern Oklahoma State, 10-5, 3-0, and 10-2. 2B Brian Fisher went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI against Oklahoma Wesleyan. C Chad Carman hit a solo home run for the winning run in the first game against Northwestern Oklahoma State. Rich Hawkins pitched the shutout in the second game, allowed four hits. C/RF Dane Phillips hit a three-run home run in the third game, and got another RBI on a ground out. The Stars visit Southern Nazarene March 6, host Mid-America Christian March 8 and 10, and visit Mid-America Christian March 9.
Concordia-Irvine (13-5, 7-1 GSAC) swept four games against Vanguard, 9-7 , 20-6, 10-9, and 14-4. Pinch-hitter Matt Taylor hit a two RBI double in the top of the ninth to win the first game. 1B Tony Harkey, Jr. hit two home runs and went 3-for-4 with three RBI and four runs scored in the second game. LF Kyle Konicek when 4-for-5 with a double and two RBI in the third game, and 3B Ryan DiMascio went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in the fourth game. The Eagles visit non-conference Cal State-San Marcos March 9, and visit Cal State-San Marcos March 10. The Eagles lead the Golden State Athletic Conference; The Master's is second with a 6-2 record.
Lee (21-2, 9-0 SSAC) swept Milligan 10-1 and 13-0. SS Edmanuel Rivera and 1B Roberto Reyes hit home runs in the first game. Dustin Lawson, Kyle Briner, and Joe Fabre combined for a two-hit shutout in the second game. The Flames then swept three games against Truett McConnell, 8-1, 3-2, and 14-4. Kris Hall went seven innings in the first game, allowed one run on three hits, struck out 12. The Flames were out-hit 5-4 in the second game, but 2B Blake Barber singled in a run in the bottom of the seventh to win it. LF Mike Moore went 3-for-4 with a home run in the third game. The Flames visit Bryan March 7 and Tennessee Temple March 8, then host Loyola-New Orleans March 9-10. Barber is batting .507 for the Flames.
Lubbock Christian (12-6. 5-1 SAC) won two games at Rogers State 7-2 and 8-7 (nine innings, scheduled for seven), but the Hillcats avoided the sweep by winning the third game 7-3. Tyler Rogers went the seven-inning distance in the first game, allowed six hits, struck out eight. The Hillcats led the second game 5-2 going into the seventh inning, but the Chaparrals scored five runs in the top of the seventh, and the Hillcats answered with two runs in the bottom of the ninth to send it into extra innings. The game was decided by a bases-loaded balk. Shawn Spainhoward went the distance for the Hillcats in the third game, allowed seven hits, struck out four. SS Randy Ramirez batted in three runs and scored one more for the Hillcats. The Chaparrals visit Division II Texas-Permian Basin March 6; and host U. of Science and Arts of Oklahoma March 9-10.
Embry-Riddle (15-5, 8-2 Sun Conference) and Savannah College of Art and Design were able to complete only one game of a scheduled three-game series, and SCAD won that one 4-3 in ten innings. SS Hunter Pope hit an RBI single to win it. Matthew Rogers, who pitched five innings in relief for the Bees, and allowed no runs on three hits, got the win. The second game was stopped by heavy rain and lightning after four innings. The two games won't be made up unless they make a difference in The Sun Conference standings. The Eagles defeated Bellevue 9-4. CF Frankie Arias went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI; Daniel Eaton went seven innings, allowed four runs on seven hits, struck out nine. The Eagles host Cumberland March 5-7, Aquinas March 8, and Indiana Tech March 10-11.
LSU-Shreveport (15-2, 6-2 RRAC) defeated Division III Louisiana College 12-8, and won two of three at U. of the Southwest, 9-0, 9-10, and 9-2. Matt Lackie pitched the seven-inning shutout in the first game, allowed six hits, struck out seven. U. of the Southwest scored six runs in the bottom of the ninth to win the second game; four of the runs came from a grand slam home run by DH Eric Alvarez, and pinch hitter Micah Martinez hit a solo home run to win it. SS Manny Estrada went 3-for-5 with three RBI in the third game. The Pilots host LSU-Alexandria March 6, and Texas C. March 9-10.
Cumberland (9-7) lost a mid-week game at Tennessee Wesleyan 14-9, and opened their TranSouth schedule winning two of three against Mid-Continent, 4-1, 0-1, and 11-1. Chipper Smith got the win in the first game, allowed one run on three hits in six innings. Hunter Burge got the seven-inning shutout for Mid-Continent in the second game, allowed four hits, struck out six. The only run of the game came on a throwing error; Keith Kirby, who got the loss, allowed only four hits, struck out two. In the third game, RHP Mike Mandarino hit two home runs and struck out eight batters. The Bulldogs play Bellevue and Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach March 5, play Embry-Riddle March 6, and Aquinas and Embry-Riddle March 7. They return home to play Lyon March 10-11.
Faulkner (17-4, 6-2 SSAC) won two games against Reinhardt, 4-3 and 6-1, defeated Point 8-6, and swept Southern Wesleyan, 10-1, 12-0, and 11-7. SS Craig Massey went 5-for-5 with two home runs and six RBI in the first game against Southern Wesleyan. The Eagles host Iowa Wesleyan March 5 and 7, and visit Spring Hill March 9-10. Okahoma Baptist (17-2, 3-0 SAC) swept Mid America Christian, 8-1, 13-3, and 12-4. Steven Messner got the win in the first game, pitched seven scoreless innings. LF Michael Sliger went 3-for-5 with a home run and a double in the second game, Chad Hardison got the win. Biola (9-12, 3-5 GSAC) split four games with Westmont, winning at Westmont 5-2 and 6-4, and losing at home 14-6 and 8-6. Jeff Grijalva got the win in the first game, allowed two runs on six hits in 7 1/3 innings. 1B Mac Sullivan hit a three-run home run for the Eagles in the second game. Timothy Leary and Geoff Rocha got the wins for Westmont; Leary allowed 15 hits, but allowed only four runs. The Eagles host Vanguard March 8-9, and visit Vanguard March 10.
Campbellsville (12-2) won two of three at Georgetown C., giving Georgetown their first two losses of the season; they were 15-0 going into this series. The scores were 12-7, 2-1, and 3-5. Michael Mcbride and Ryan Richardson got the wins for Campbellsville; Richardson pitched a three-hitter.
