Cal Baptist won two of three against Division II Cal State-San Bernardino. The Lancers won the first game 3-2. Taylor Siemens got the win, holding CSUSB to three hits over six innings, striking out five. SS Brian Sharp singled in the winning run in the sixth inning. CSUSB won the second game 8-3; the game was tied 3-3 going into the eighth inning, but the Coyotes pulled away with a two-RBI single by RF David Silvas. 2B Cole Bullard and Sharp each had two hits for the Lancers, and Travis Barnes got the loss. The Lancers won the rubber game 8-5, and RF Matt Marnati went 3-4 and batted in three runs. Devyn Rivera got the win; he and reliever Erik Wallace combined to hold the Coyotes to seven hits. Marnati is batting .522, Wallace is 1-0, 1.64 ERA with two saves. Coming up for the Lancers: at Cal State-LA on Tuesday, at Redlands on Wednesday, and away-and-home against Cal State San Marcos, a team that is now 6-1, Feb 11-12.
The Red River-Sooner Conference challenge that was scheduled at Northwood (TX) was cancelled due to weather, depriving Lubbock Christian and Oklahoma City of their season openers. The Chaparrals are now scheduled to host Bellevue Feb. 11-12; the Stars will host Sterling Feb. 11-12. However, LSU-Shreveport managed to schedule a triple-header against Lindenwood, and the result was three losses, 9-8, 7-4, and 7-6. CF Mario Parra had five hits in nine at-bats for the day for the Lions. The Pilots host Southern Arkansas on Tuesday, and Belhaven Feb. 11-12.
Lee opened their season with a three-game sweep of Virginia Intermont, 11-1, 12-0, and 10-0. All three games were shortened by the mercy rule. In the second game, Jay Bolen and Kris Dockery combined to hold the Cobras to one hit. OF Seth Walker had seven hits in ten at-bats for the series. The Flames visit Tennessee Wesleyan on Tuesday, and host Shawnee State Feb. 11-12.
Embry-Riddle started their season with a three-game sweep of Auburn-Montgomery, 6-5, 8-4, and 11-4. Tyler Robbins went 3-5 with six RBI for the series, and Chris Page was 6-11. The Eagles host Warner Feb. 11-12.
Point Loma Nazarene opened their season with a 7-0 loss to Cal State San Marcos. Adam Bileckj and Kyle Smart combined for a five-hit shoutout for the Cougars, and LF Victor Serna went 3-5 with two stolen bases and two runs scored. The Sea Lions recovered with a double-header sweep of Oregon Tech, 8-4 and 6-1. 2B Tyler Kuehl went 4-4 with three RBI in the first game, and Brett Carlile got the win. Jack Archie pitched a one-hitter in the second game, and was two outs short of a seven-inning no-hitter. RF Jack Diamond hit a home run for the Sea Lions, and LF Kendall Konopka scored the winning run on a throwing error. The Hustlin' Owls' run was walked in.
The Sea Lions host Arizona Christian Feb. 11-12.
After the win over Point Loma, Cal State San Marcos swept three games against San Diego Christian, 13-4, 5-3, and 8-7. The Cougars trailed the second game 3-1 after six innings, but came back with three runs in the seventh on and RBI single by SS Johnny Omahen, an RBI triple by LF Victor Serna, and an RBI single by 2B Trent Jemmett. The Hawks led the third game 7-6 going into the bottom of the seventh and final inning, but LF Antony Renteria hit an RBI single to tie it, then Johnny Omahen, who was moved from SS to the mound for the seventh inning, hit a walk-off RBI single, winning his own ball game. The Cougars play Cal Baptist home-and-away Feb. 11-12.
Southern Polytechnic won two of three against Milligan, winning 13-3 and 3-2, and losing 5-4. The Hornets host Atlanta Christian on Tuesday, and Montreat Feb. 12-13.
South Carolina-Beaufort had their opener at Freed-Hardeman cancelled due to weather. The Sand Sharks are scheduled to visit Claflin on Tuesday, host Brewton-Parker on Wednesday, and host Fisher Feb. 12-13.
Cumberland opens their season at home against Missouri Baptist Feb. 11-12, and hosts Saint Francis Feb. 13.
Lewis-Clark State starts their season hosting the Red Lion tournament Feb. 10-13; the visiting teams are College of Idaho, Corban, and Concordia-Portland.
British Columbia opens their season at Simpson Feb. 9, followed by Fresno Pacific Feb. 10, Whittier Feb. 12, and Concordia-Irvine Feb. 13.
