  • Caribbean Series: Águilas Cibaeñas 6, Criollas de Caguas 3

    The Águilas Cibaeñas (Dominican Republic) led the whole way in a 6-3 win over the Criollas de Caguas (Puerto Rico) in a Caribbean Series game at Estadio de los Charros de Jalisco in Guadalajara, Mexico.

    The scoring started in the first inning with a two-RBI single by1B Edwin Espinal. It was set up by a double steal. In the second inning, SS Abiatal Avelino hit an RBI single, CF-RF Juan Carlos Pérez hit a sacrifice fly, and LF Junior Lake hit an RBI single. Criollas starter Giovanni Soto was relieved after failing to record an out in the second inning, and the Águilas led 5-0. Pérez' sacrifice fly became the winning run.

  • Caribbean Series: Águilas Cibaeñas 7, Alazanes de Granma 1

    The Águilas Cibaeñas (Dominican Republic) got a brilliant start from RHP Bryan Evans, and a two-run home run by Junior Lake, and defeated the Alazanes de Granma (Cuba) 7-1 in a well-played Caribbean Series game at Estadio de los Charros de Jalisco in Guadalajara, Mexico.

    The Águilas got on the board in the bottom of the first when LF Junior Lake drew a walk, stole second, and scored on a double by 1B Edwin Espinal. That was all the scoring for the first four innings. The Águilas got a double play in the top of the fourth, and the bottom of the fourth ended with a good play by SS Yordan Manduley. The Alazanes pulled starter Vladimir Baños after three innings, even though he was doing OK. He allowed four hits, walked two, struck out four, and got the loss.

    The Águilas got the winning run on the two-run home run by Lake in the bottom of the fifth. The Alazanes got their only run of the game on a home run by CF Roel Santos in the top of the sixth.

  • Caribbean Series: Criollas de Caguas 12, Caribes de Anzoátegui 7

    The Criollas de Caguas (Puerto Rico) defeated the Caribes de Anzoátegui (Venezuela) 12-7 with an offensive explosion in a Caribbean Series game at Estadio de los Charros de Jalisco in Guadalajara, Mexico.

    The barrage began in the top of the first inning, with DH Johnny Monell hitting an RBI single, followed by a three-run  home run by 3B David Vidal. CF Rusney Castillo added a two-run home run in the second inning, Monell hit an RBI double, and Vidal hit an RBI single. SS Jesmuel Valentin hit an sacrifice fly in the third, and the Criollas led 9-0 after 2 1/2 innings. However, the Caribes ended the shutout in the bottom of the third with RBI singles by RF Rene Reyes and 1B Balbino Fuenmayor. They added another run in the fourth on an RBI single by CF Rafael Ortega, and this chased Criollas starter David Richardson.

    Caribes starter Carlos Teller was replaced by Yelper Castillo in the second inning, and he was effective at preventing further damage. He went 3 1/3 innings, allowed five hits, and the only run he allowed was Valentin's sacrifice fly. Meanwhile, Richardson's replacement, Fernando Cruz, pitched 2 2/3 hitless innings. Nelvin Fuentes pitched the seventh inning for the Criollas, allowed one hit. Yender Caramo relieved Castillo, allowed one hit in two innings. The score was 9-3 after seven innings.
